Luzern by rain
Am Donnerstag traf ich mich mit Ruth, Wayne und Simon in Luzern. Zuerst stand natürlich die Kapellbrücke und die Altstadt auf dem Programm, bevor wir mit dem Mittagsschiff vom Quai Nr. 1 ablegten. Das Essen war fein, und so war die Fahrt nach Weggis und zurück sehr kurzweilig. Am Nachmittag stand das Verkehrshaus auf dem Programm (das macht man doch bei Schlechtwetter so - oder 
). Mit gefällt es immer wieder. Simon hat da andere Ansichten… Im IMAX lief der Film “The Alps”. Das traf sich ja bestens. Dann gings zurück zum Bahnhof und nach Escholzmatt. Am Abend luden uns Ruth und Wayne ins Rössli ein. Offensichtlich hat es uns deutlich besser als ihnen geschmeckt. Pech gehabt.
THURSDAY 4TH.
Simon, Wayne and Ruth caught the 10:18 train to Lucerne and Benedikt met us at 11am and we walked over the pretty wooden bridge and around the old city. We boarded the Vierwaldstattätter and had a picturesque cruise to Weggis on the lake, and a lovely meal. We disembarked at the museum of transport and technology and looked at trains, cars and ‘planes and then to the Imax theatre to see a film about John Harlin (a swiss american originally from Lausanne), whose father had died while attempting a new and very difficult face of the Eiger when John was 9 years old. The story was John confronting his long held fears of the mountain and his victory over both - amazing scenery and gripping story. We had an enjoyable walk back to the staion for the 5pm train home. Then at 7pm The family (minus David) and Wayne and Ruth dined just down the road at the famous Gasthof Rössi where the owner chef goes out to the mountains and collects stones, moss and wood etc - so Wayne and Simon had hay soup! (tasted like thin mushroom soup Wayne said), Ruth had rice cooked in a brown sauce with gold (edible) foil on it! and other intriguing things. Home about 10pm - full and fun day.
