Fussball und Titlis
Saturday 6th October
It was a very foggy day so we had a good ’stay at home’ morning and in the afternoon, Benedikt, Conny, Sarah and Ruth drove a good way up the Beichlen and then WALKED a good way up to the top!
We could see MUCH fog and cloud and we could see well the mountain we were walking on but not any other mountains! We could see where the farmer had disconnected the barbed wire from the posts in readiness for the snow falling and skiiers not getting injured. We could also see where the cows and sheep had been (by the chueflade- in kiwi language - cowpats) We also found (to Ruth’s delight), the few last raspberries and at least a cupful of BLUEBERRIES! YUM! There were thousands of plants - how I would love to take a bucketful home!

.

Sunday 7th Oct.
We (Benedikt, Conny and Ruth) leave home at 9-30am and drive to Engelberg(which means Angel Mountain), over the Rengg Pass (and saw where flood did much damage 2 years ago), via Lucerne. We went up 3 ‘flying cabins’ (gondolers) the last one being a revolving one, to get up Titlis (yes New Zealanders- that is its name!). We climbed to the top of Little Titlis and then couldn’t resist the urge to go part way up Big Titlis and have our picnic of freshly baked bread, cheese and spread and apples (and Benny enjoys a good amount of salami). It was an incomparable view - we enjoy singing ‘I’m on the top of the world, looking down on Creation’

There was still quite a lot of fog down in the valleys but we could see the top of Beichlen where we climbed yesterday which was good.
On the way home Benedikt let Conny and Ruth off at Entlebuch and we enjoyed a lovely walk by the river to Hasle, where we caught the train to Escholzmatt.
On the way home Ruth collected a few apples off the ground from the appletree by the station and we wandered home - only to find that poor Benedikt hadn’t taken a key with him and so he had waited 45 minutes for us - most patiently I must add!
By this time we were very ready for our dinner which was a traditional swiss meal (that Franziska, Conny’s sister enjoys so much she had it for her wedding reception) Alplermagronen - potatoes, pasta, onions, sausage(Benny ate my sausage) with a parmesan cheese cream sauce - and applesauce over it all. Benedikt and Ruth had 2 helpings. It was lovely that they knew in English the grace when I started to sing (Thank You LORD for giving us food - right where we are!) I almost forgot - we were able to enjoy the last part of Sarah’s soccer game in Engelberg (score 2-0 to Escholzmatt) - what an amazing place to watch a game - surrounded by beautiful mountains). ANOTHER WONDERFUL DAY - GOD’S SPECIAL DAY - Thankyou LORD for a safe and happy day!! We are sad for Wayne and the All Blacks and their many supporters - they lost to the French 22-18. Oh dear!
