Discovering Basel

Wednesday 10th Oct.
Ruth: Benedikt and Sarah are up and out the door between 6 and 7 am, and Conny is up to see them off and do washing and supermarket shopping before Ruth and Wayne have breakfast !! It is very hard to get up anything before Conny - even a mountain! We haven’t tried cycling with her yet - Ruth wants to but is a bit scared she won’t make it! Ruth and Wayne get the 9:36am train to Bern, then change trains to go to Basel, (2hours in total). Wayne kindly takes Ruth the way she will have to go herself on the 2 trains and then bus to the airport on Sunday while he is in Paris. We do a bit of a tour around Basel, seems like a pretty city (situated on the River Rhein) and the tram system seems to work like a swiss clock - highly organised! We find a wonderful Christian bookshop and the only two things to keep Ruth from buying more than we did, was one the books were all in German! and I have to carry my own backpack! We met some very nice people in the shop to talk to , Wayne met Luigi an Italian who has been to Israel four times (we went last year for first time), and I met Marisa a 25 year old lovely young woman who I hope we’ll meet again, and a lady called Ruth and her 22 year old son(Stefan), who is a percussionist and whose older brother Chris is a drummer in a band and we bought a cd his band has made! We got the 2 trains home and had a lovely meal with Conny and Benedikt that Conny had made for us (as well as doing the washing, ironing, gardening etc etc!! a bit of a Wonder Woman!) Time for an early night because tomorrow is another big day!!
